Benefits of the Box
PREGNANCY POWER FOODS
We serve foods containing high levels of antioxidants and anthocyanin’s to prevent cell damage and help you manage stressful environments. These foods happen to taste great and look beautiful too. Known for preventing the onset of disease, antioxidants can protect children from obesity and disease.
No, we’re not talking about bread. Brown rice, quinoa, potatoes, beans, peas and lentils are a great source of complex carbs and contain essential vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that contribute to decreasing bad cholesterol, normalizing blood glucose levels and promoting healthy digestion. Boost your energy, rev up brain function and increase your metabolism with our healthy stews and soups.
From heart health to digestion, fiber is a key element in a healthy meal that leaves you feeling satisfied. Naturally pickled foods and naturally lacto-fermented foods provide valuable enzymes that help with digestion and other health functions. We complement our meals with “live” pickled vegetables for maximum health benefit. It's also important to remember that your baby inherits his or her gut flora directly from you. The healthier your gut microbiome, the healthier your babies digestive tract will be.
We’ve all heard that avocados are a great source of “good fat”. And that’s because they contain monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, which are great for hearth health – improving blood lipids, and controlling cholesterol and blood pressure. They’re also super important for digestion because they aid in the absorption of critical vitamins and nutrients. Other great healthy fats to include in your diet are coconut oil and olive oil. Unlike restaurants that use extra butter and cream, we cook with healthy fats to add great taste, flavor and health benefits to our favorite meals. Delicious doesn’t have to be bad for us – so we use reduction, acidity, spices and other techniques to create flavor intensity without excess fat – with the added health bonus of “good fat”. Good fats are also super important for you and your baby since they build your baby's brain.
Your mother was right: Eat more leafy greens. The science is more conclusive every day - leafy greens are full of phytonutrients that are great for our bodies. We use a rotating seasonal blend of greens with terrific flavor and texture. No iceberg.
Boost energy levels by adding high quality protein to whole foods, balanced diet. Sustainably raised animal products and high quality protein are important to us. So we use antibiotic free, hormone free chicken and grass fed beef in a variety of our dinners. We also use nuts and beans to provide a combination of protein and other beneficial compounds.
Natural, minimally processed grains are nutritional powerhouses full of energy to keep you going through a long day, and grow your energy reserves for both baby and yourself. As your body works to build your bundle of joy, you’ll need to increase your intake of nutrient dense calories and complex carbs. Brown rice, bulgur, barley, and quinoa are healthy whole grains that aid digestion, promote better nutrition absorption, and may even beef up the body's immune system. Full of B-vitamins and fiber, the whole grains in our dinners are full of healthy proteins, vitamins, minerals and a variety of phytochemicals that will improve your health, and help you bring a healthy baby into the world.
